and then there are the times when i'm awake after all, with my brain struggling to catching up. often i find myself going through the motions, waiting for my next coffee or siesta to inject fresh energy into my day. which is a neat little analogy for how my walk with God was until recently.
did you know that God had already sanctified you to His purpose when you were in your mother's womb? asleep or awake, that purpose existed long before you could realise or comprehend it, and the choice remaining is whether or not you'll appropriate the divine calling God has placed over your life.
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,are you awake?
before you were born I set you apart. (Jeremiah 1:5)
Lift up your eyes and look about you. (Isaiah 60:4)
i'll expand on this testimony in coming posts. for now, let me say simply that this blog serves as a training ground for myself and my friend Chris to acid test our thoughts and ideas inspired by the Word of God. feedback is the name of the game here, and we'd love it in abundance please. also, we aim to make this blog fairly regular, hopefully to incorporate into our respective devotional times, and to reiterate various messages we've heard throughout the week. we hope you will be inspired and encouraged by our words, and we invite God to use them as a way to speak to you personally.
finally, a note on the name. you may recognise the reference to a famous verse in Romans.
Therefore I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercyto offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God
- this is your spiritual act of worship (Romans 12:1)
i think 'living sacrifice' places a fairly substantial burden upon us. this christian thing isn't just another weekly activity. God's after our life, and that's a massive sacrifice.
thank God he already paid the price.
I personally thought my suggestion of Upgrade was pretty original. Hmph.
ReplyDeleteYou need more sleep! I think that should be one of your goals for 2009. You'd probably be a lot more productive in your waking hours if your sleeping hours were better.
I think you can expect me to be an avid reader/feedbacker (that sounds like some kind of American football position) of your blog. Pretty excited about hearing thoughts and revelations from the both of you.
In exchange for frequent comments and hopefully a fair bit of encouragement, I expect regular updates!
P.S. I love how you were talking about being really tired... And you posted this at 2:12AM.
ReplyDeleteHello World! I'm Thumpy, otherwise known as Chris, or "That random dude with the bible, curly hair and the chilli sauce"... I'm looking forward to getting much feedback on what we're going to be writing here, positive and negative, because I want this to be a learning experience for me, as well as an opportunity to share what little knowledge I've accrued over my mere 20 yrs on this planet.
ReplyDeleteso yes, Hello everyone =D
